Opening Doors Through Language: How Ibn Tofail University is Transforming Education with Rosetta Stone

Event: 12 April 2024

Partner: Rosetta Stone – Ibn Tofail University

Language is more than just a tool for communication, it is a gateway to knowledge, opportunities, and global connections. At Ibn Tofail University, ensuring students have the skills to thrive internationally has always been a priority. With this vision in mind, the university has taken a significant step forward by integrating the Rosetta Stone language learning app into its academic framework.

This initiative is part of a national effort led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Innovation, within the framework of the National Plan for Accelerating the Transition of Higher Education. The goal is clear: to provide students with the necessary resources to master languages that will open doors for them both academically and professionally.

A Solution for Every Student

Mastering a new language can be challenging, especially when it impacts a student’s academic performance or future career opportunities. Many students face difficulties with key languages such as English and French, which are essential for success in higher education and the job market. To address this challenge, Ibn Tofail University has partnered with Rosetta Stone, one of the leading global language-learning platforms, to provide free access to its courses.

The app offers lessons in 25 languages, with English and French being mandatory due to their academic and professional significance. A standout feature of this initiative is the provision of high-data SIM cards to students, a result of a collaboration with INWI, one of Morocco’s prominent telecommunications providers. This partnership represents a major step in ensuring that all students, regardless of their economic situation, can access the learning materials without concern about internet connectivity. By providing these SIM cards, INWI has helped make this valuable resource available to everyone, ensuring equal opportunity for all students to benefit from the program.

A Personalized Learning Experience

Learning a language is not a uniform experience; it varies from person to person.. That is why students begin their experience with an assessment test to determine their exact proficiency level. From there, they are guided through courses specifically designed to meet their needs, mimicking real-life situations to make learning engaging and practical. The program does not stop at online lessons. In addition to the 15-hour digital coursework per language that is offerd at the university’s language center, students have the opportunity to attend in-person classes at their faculties. This blended approach ensures a deeper understanding and practical application of their new skills.

Equal Opportunities for a Stronger Future

One of the most inspiring aspects of this initiative is its inclusivity. For students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, the financial burden of language courses is often a major obstacle. With this initiative, those worries are eliminated, every student, regardless of their financial situation, has the same opportunity to enhance their linguistic skills.

Upon completion, students receive a certificate and a diploma, which they can proudly add to their resumes, making them more competitive in the job market. If any challenges arise, the digital registration center is available to provide guidance and support, ensuring that every student can progress without setbacks.

Empowering a Multilingual Generation

Morocco’s unique position in the world as a cultural and economic bridge between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East—makes multilingualism a necessity rather than a luxury. Ibn Tofail University recognizes this reality and is equipping its students with the tools to navigate an increasingly globalized world with confidence.

By implementing this initiative, the university is not just teaching languages, it is empowering future leaders, innovators, and global citizens. This is more than just an educational upgrade ; it is a commitment to equipping Ibn Tofail students with the skills to excel in their fields and compete successfully on both a local and international scale.
