Salma: A Multi-Form Digital Companion Supporting Students at Ibn Tofail University
As part of its digital transformation strategy, Ibn Tofail University has introduced Salma, a multi-form digital companion designed to assist students throughout their academic journey. Salma exists across three key platforms—chatbot, robot, and avatar—each tailored to offer contextual, reliable, and student-centered support.
A Personalized Orientation Assistant: Salma the Chatbot
Available 24/7, the chatbot version of Salma is the university’s official orientation assistant. It provides future and current students with relevant and tailored guidance to help them choose a study path based on their baccalaureate specialization and region. It also explains admission types—whether Open Access or Regulated Access with specific criteria—and helps students explore appropriate faculties and programs aligned with their academic profile. In addition, Salma gives access to detailed information about student services such as financial aid and learning resources, campus life including clubs and student events, university platforms like ENT, and the full registration process including pre-enrollment, required documents, and deadlines. Through personalized recommendations and structured guidance, Salma helps students make informed decisions and engage confidently with university systems.
A Welcoming Presence on Campus: Salma the Robot
Installed in the university library, Salma the robot welcomes students, helps them find resources, and answers questions related to campus life. With its voice interaction, personalized responses, and mobility, it strengthens human connection on campus and shows how robotics can enhance the student experience without replacing human interaction.
An Engaging Voice in Virtual Classrooms: Salma the Avatar
In digital learning environments, Salma appears as an AI-powered avatar that acts as a virtual instructor. She guides students through complex concepts using animated videos, simple explanations, and an encouraging tone. This innovative use of artificial intelligence and virtual reality brings a more immersive and interactive learning experience. Salma not only helps students stay focused and motivated, but also creates emotional continuity within courses—making distance learning at UIT more dynamic, engaging, and student-centered. Her role reflects the university’s broader commitment, through the Center for Pedagogical and Digital Innovation, to improving the quality and accessibility of education using advanced digital tools.
A Strategic Vision Rooted in Innovation
At the heart of Ibn Tofail University’s digital transformation is Code212, a hub dedicated to fostering innovation and developing intelligent solutions tailored to real student needs. While Salma was not created directly within this hub, she is a powerful reflection of its mission. As a multi-form digital companion, Salma embodies the values promoted by Code212—blending technological efficiency with accessibility and a human touch. Her presence across platforms illustrates how innovation at UIT is not just about advanced tools, but about creating meaningful, student-centered experiences.
