The UNESCO Chair on Women and Their Rights at Ibn Tofaïl University is a multidisciplinary, trilingual initiative (Arabic, French, English) co-directed by Professors Fouzia Rhissassi (Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, Kénitra) and Khalid Berjaoui (Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences, Rabat). The Chair serves as a space for dialogue, research, knowledge exchange, and reflection on women and their rights, with the broader aim of promoting a culture of gender equality and empowerment.
Missions of the Chair
The Chair carries out its mission through several complementary actions:
Training: Supports doctoral students and trainers to develop expertise in women’s rights.
Teaching: Develops pedagogical tools and integrates the dimension of women’s rights into higher education curricula and research units.
Research: Encourages both action research and theoretical studies on gender equality and women’s issues.
Documentation and Publications: Creates documentation centers, audio-visual tools, and other technological resources.
Advocacy and Awareness: Organizes outreach activities, media programs, and engages key stakeholders to promote women’s rights.
Encouraging Women in Underrepresented Subjects
A key impact of the Chair is its role in encouraging women to apply and succeed in disciplines where they are traditionally underrepresented. Through specialized training, mentoring, research opportunities, and integration of gender-sensitive content into curricula, the Chair creates an inclusive academic environment that motivates women to pursue studies in both STEM and social sciences. By providing visibility, role models, and structured support, the Chair directly contributes to reducing gender gaps and increasing female participation across all academic fields.
