Retracted Papers in Scholarly Publishing: Causes, Risks, and Prevention Strategies

Ibn Tofail University, through its Scientific Production Support Center headed by El Mendili Saida, organized a scientific workshop on academic integrity as part of its scholarly publishing training series. Entitled “Retracted Papers: How to Avoid Retraction from Scientific Journals”, the workshop sought to raise researchers’ awareness of ethical publication practices and enhance research quality within the academic community. This initiative reflects the university’s sustained commitment to responsible research conduct and adherence to international publication standards.

The workshop, held on 17 December 2025 at 10:00 a.m., targeted researchers and doctoral students seeking to better understand the main causes of article retractions, including methodological errors, ethical breaches, and publication misconduct. It provided participants with practical guidance on preventing such issues before submission, during peer review, and after publication, thereby safeguarding both scientific credibility and institutional reputation.

The session was led by Tarek Jawad, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department at Al-Mustaqbal University – Iraq, whose expertise in academic publishing offered valuable insight into best practices for maintaining research integrity. His contribution emphasized transparency, rigorous methodology, and adherence to ethical standards as essential pillars of trustworthy scholarship.

Overall, the workshop contributed to fostering a culture of academic integrity and excellence. By equipping scholars with knowledge about publication ethics and risk prevention, the event supports sustainable research development while enhancing institutional visibility and credibility in the global academic landscape.
