Ibn Tofail University Celebrates the Legacy of Ibn Tofaïl Through the Event “Ibn Tofaïl: Humanist Without Borders”

Ibn Tofail University, through the ICESCO Chair of Comparative Literature and Arts, organized the cultural and academic event entitled “Ibn Tofaïl: Humanist Without Borders” in celebration of the inscription of the text Al Urjuza fi Tib by Ibn Tofaïl in the UNESCO “Memory of the World” Register. The event highlighted the intellectual, philosophical, and humanistic contributions of one of the most influential scholars of the Andalusian era.

The event brought together distinguished academics, researchers, students, media representatives, and cultural actors in a spirit of dialogue, transmission, and openness inspired by the universal thought of Ibn Tofaïl. Discussions and scholarly exchanges focused on the significance of preserving and promoting shared intellectual heritage as a cornerstone of intercultural understanding and humanistic values.

The Chair expressed its sincere gratitude to the President of Ibn Tofail University, Prof. Mohammed Ebn Touhami, for his invaluable support in ensuring the success of the event. Appreciation was also extended to Prof. Karima Selmaoui for her presence and continued support, as well as to Prof. Mohamed Zarro for his contribution to the organization of the meeting.

Special recognition was given to the ICESCO and to Mr. Mohamed Zine Elabidine for their commitment to the valorization of shared intellectual and cultural heritage. The event also featured contributions from renowned scholars, including Mr. Abdelfattah Kilito, Mrs. Bouchra Boulouiz, Mr. Youssef Tibesse, Mr. Nabil Benabdeljalil, Mr. Nabil Faziou, and Mrs. Sanae Ghouati, under the moderation of Mr. Bouazza Benachir.

The organizers also praised the active participation of doctoral candidates, students, and the audiovisual team from the Center of Excellence in Design & Applied Arts, whose efforts contributed significantly to the live broadcasting and media coverage of the event. Journalists and media representatives were likewise acknowledged for helping extend the reach and visibility of the discussions to a broader audience.

This event reflects the university’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage, promoting intercultural dialogue, and fostering intellectual openness. It also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably Quality Education through the promotion of culture and knowledge dissemination, Sustainable Cities and Communities through the safeguarding of cultural heritage, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through dialogue and cultural understanding, and Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between academic, cultural, and international institutions.
