The Faculty of Languages, Letters and Arts in Kénitra at Ibn Tofaïl University hosted a distinguished training workshop entitled “Gender in Newsrooms: Mechanisms for Promoting Pluralism.” The workshop was held as part of the academic and professional activities organized by the Centre of Excellence for Communication and Multimedia, with the aim of fostering knowledge and awareness of gender-related issues in the media sector.
The training session was organized through a collaborative initiative involving the Communication and Media programmes and Master’s programmes at the Centre of Excellence for Communication and Multimedia, the Boussole Initiatives Citoyennes Association, and Journalists for Human Rights. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening students’ understanding of contemporary media issues and developing their professional competencies in communication and journalism.
The workshop addressed the role of gender in newsrooms and explored mechanisms for promoting greater pluralism in media practices. It provided participants with an opportunity to engage with key questions surrounding diversity, representation, and the treatment of gender-related issues within news production and media environments.
Students actively participated in the workshop, demonstrating strong interest through their contributions, exchanges, and discussions. Their engagement contributed to creating a dynamic learning environment and enriched the discussions around the challenges and opportunities associated with promoting more inclusive and pluralistic media practices.
The event also highlighted the importance of partnership and collaboration between academic institutions and civil society organizations in providing students with opportunities that complement their academic training and prepare them for the professional world.
Furthermore, the workshop contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Gender Equality, by raising awareness of gender representation and promoting more inclusive practices in the media. It also supports Quality Education by providing students with complementary training and opportunities for knowledge exchange, while contributing to Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between the university, civil society organizations, and professional actors.
