The Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program offers Moroccan faculty members an opportunity to undertake six months of research at an American university or research institute. The program welcomes applications from all academic disciplines and research fields. Applicants proposing research in medical or legal fields are advised to consult the relevant program authorities to determine whether their proposed research is eligible.
The Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program offers Moroccan faculty members the opportunity to undertake six months of research at an American university or research institution. In line with its commitment to supporting and informing its academic community, Ibn Tofail University regularly shares valuable academic and research opportunities, such as the Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program, through its social media platforms, helping its academics stay informed about opportunities for international research and collaboration.
The grant period must be completed continuously, without interruption. As part of the application process, Moroccan researchers are required to contact an American university, research institution, or academic colleague who is willing to host them for the entire duration of the grant. Applicants planning to spend six months in the United States must clearly indicate this duration in their application and ensure that it is also specified in the invitation letter from their prospective U.S. host.
Applicants are expected to have sufficient spoken and written English proficiency to conduct their research, collaborate effectively with academic colleagues in the United States, and manage everyday communication during their stay. They must also clearly explain why their proposed research needs to be conducted in the United States rather than Morocco and describe the expected academic and research benefits of the proposed stay.
Eligibility requirements apply to the program. Permanent residents of the United States (Green Card holders) and Moroccan-American dual nationals are not eligible to apply. In accordance with Fulbright program requirements, successful Visiting Scholars must also commit to returning to Morocco upon completion of the program.
Individuals who are employees of, or close family members or dependents of employees of, MACECE, the MACECE Board, the U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Department of State, or its cooperating agencies are also ineligible to apply.
The program offers an opportunity for Moroccan faculty members to strengthen their research through international academic engagement, develop connections with U.S. scholars and institutions, and gain access to research environments that can support their academic projects. Through this exchange, the program contributes to knowledge sharing and the development of international research networks.
The Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Quality Education, by supporting academic research, professional development, knowledge exchange, and international educational opportunities. It also contributes to Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening academic cooperation and research networks between Moroccan and American universities and research institutions. By facilitating international scholarly exchange and collaboration, the program supports the circulation of knowledge and contributes to broader partnerships in higher education and research.
