Meeting at Ibn Tofail University on Morocco’s Leadership in Harnessing the Potential of Universities to Combat the Climate Crisis

In collaboration with The British Council Morocco,the United Nations Morocco and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, Ibn Tofail University organized a meeting on March 16, 2022, to discuss Morocco’s leadership in harnessing the potential of universities to combat the climate crisis. Four Moroccan universities participated in this event: Ibn Tofail University, Mohammed V University of Rabat, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Ben Guerir, and the International University of Rabat.

The participants presented the work carried out by their respective universities in response to the climate crisis, not only through research but also through education, community engagement, and public awareness. The event at Ibn Tofail university showcased Morocco’s leadership in harnessing the potential of universities to lead in combating the climate crisis. The event provided a platform for universities to share their experiences, strategies, and best practices in tackling the climate crisis. This sharing of knowledge leads to collaboration and the development of innovative solutions.

This directly relates to the United Nations’ calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. The collaboration between the British Council, United Nations, the Moroccan government, and Ibn Tofail University emphasizes the importance of partnerships to achieve the other SDGs. It showcases how governments, international organizations, and academia can collaborate to address pressing global challenges.
