Project to Foster Next-Generation Korean Studies Experts in Morocco

Description:

Given the growing interest of the Maghreb region in Asia, introducing Korean studies has become an essential part of fostering openness and collaboration. A university cooperation initiative has been established between Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra and Jeonbuk National University in South Korea.

This collaborative project, aimed at future generations, focuses on training experts in Korean studies by establishing a center dedicated to South Korean research at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Ibn Tofail University. The goal is to provide students with specialized programs that prepare them to establish and transmit Korean studies research and education across Africa.

Project Objectives:

  • Train professionals specializing in Korean studies (Koreanologists).
  • Establish research and cooperation networks between Korean studies researchers.
  • Create a Korean studies research and training center at the Faculty of Economics and Management, Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra.
  • Develop academic activities based on South Korea’s economic development model and establish economic cooperation networks between South Korea and Morocco.

Project Timeline: June 2023 – June 2026

Expected Outcomes:

  • Providing opportunities for the mobility of professors and students between the two universities, with the exchange of students, teachers, and teaching practices;
  • Providing opportunities for joint supervision of doctoral theses;
  • Offering advanced courses in Korean studies (economics, cultural industries) and developing related educational programs;
  • Offering grant scholarships for the next generation of Korean studies researchers;
  • Establishing research networks between Korean and Moroccan scholars through seminars and conferences;
  • Providing opportunities for the publication of research results in Koreanology (academic articles, conference presentations, textbooks);
  • Promoting Korean culture by developing Korean studies programs (teaching the Korean language, organizing Korean cultural days to bring Moroccans closer to Korean culture, and strengthening cooperation channels between Korea and Morocco).

  • Three published articles

Scientific, Environmental, and Economic Impact:

  • Developing Korean studies research in North Africa and the training of experts in this field;
  • Becoming a leading research center in the Maghreb region;
  • Promoting Korean culture by facilitating access to information and services related to Korean studies.
