Ibn Tofail University Advances Its Strategic Expansion with the Creation of a Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry

A major milestone in the development of Ibn Tofail University was reached following a series of strategic institutional decisions aimed at strengthening the University’s academic offerings and supporting national priorities in higher education and healthcare training.

On May 19, 2026, the Council of Ibn Tofail University convened to discuss several key projects and strategic initiatives shaping the future of the institution. The meeting focused on a number of important issues, including proposals for the establishment of new university institutions, the implementation of the contractual commitments agreed upon between the University and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the examination of projects related to the creation of new university centers, the work of the Council’s committees, and the updating of the University’s internal regulations and governance framework.

Among the major topics discussed was the expansion of the University’s academic infrastructure in response to growing regional and national needs. These deliberations reflected Ibn Tofail University’s commitment to enhancing access to quality higher education and contributing to Morocco’s socioeconomic development through innovative and forward-looking academic projects.

The efforts undertaken by the University Council were soon followed by a significant governmental decision. On June 4, 2026, the Government Council approved Draft Decree No. 2.25.561 concerning university institutions and university residences. A key provision of this decree was the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry at Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra.

The creation of this new faculty represents a transformative step for both the University and the region. It will considerably strengthen the University’s educational portfolio by introducing comprehensive training programs in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry, while addressing the increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals in Morocco.

This achievement aligns with the Kingdom’s strategic vision for higher education and human capital development. By diversifying academic programs and improving the quality and accessibility of specialized training, the new faculty will contribute to the modernization of Morocco’s healthcare sector and reinforce the country’s scientific research ecosystem.
