Ibn Tofail University and Leiden Delft-Erasmus Universities Join Forces for Sustainable Vegetable Production in Semi-Arid Areas

We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking collaboration between Ibn Tofail University and the Centre for Sustainability at Leiden Delft-Erasmus Universities. In 2023, this partnership, solidified by a memorandum of understanding (MOU), aims to harness academic knowledge development and valorization, as well as advance academic education and equipment related to vegetable production in semi-arid regions.

At the heart of this collaboration lies a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation in agriculture. Together, our institutions will focus on key areas such as smart greenhouse controls, sustainable energy supply and controls, and water treatment for cooling and irrigation. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and research, we seek to revolutionize vegetable production practices in semi-arid areas, ensuring resilience in the face of environmental challenges.

Furthermore, this collaboration extends beyond technical solutions to encompass social science aspects such as innovation and entrepreneurship. We recognize that sustainable development requires a holistic approach that addresses not only technological advancements but also social and economic factors. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to empower local communities, foster entrepreneurship, and drive sustainable economic growth.

The Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Sustainability is an interdisciplinary research centre in which three universities join forces: Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. We work together to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy.

This MOU represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and address global challenges. By combining our expertise and resources, Ibn Tofail University and Leiden Delft-Erasmus Universities are poised to make a meaningful impact on the future of agriculture and sustainable development.
