Event: 15-16 April, 2026
The Faculty of Languages, Letters and Arts (FLLA) at Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra hosted, on 15 and 16 April 2026, a special meeting dedicated to the cinematic experience of Moroccan filmmaker Nour-Eddine Lakhmari, as part of the programme “Cinéastes et critiques” (Filmmakers and Critics). The event was organized in partnership with the Moroccan Association of Film Critics, bringing together filmmakers, researchers, academics and cinema critics to explore different dimensions of Lakhmari’s cinematic work.
The opening programme featured a presentation of the book Nour-Eddine Lakhmari: Enjeux du réalisme et esthétique de la technique, followed by the screening of the short film Le Dernier Spectacle and an open discussion with the director. The programme also included a series of presentations addressing the relationship between realism, image construction and cinematic aesthetics in Lakhmari’s work.
The second day was devoted to two thematic sessions. The first, “The Challenges of Realism and the Construction of the Image,” examined the visual and aesthetic dimensions of the filmmaker’s work. The second, “The Poetics and Transformations of the Image in the Cinema of Nour-Eddine Lakhmari,” explored the evolution of cinematic representation and visual expression. The sessions brought together several researchers and cinema critics, creating opportunities for academic discussion and critical reflection.
The event reflects the Faculty’s interest in strengthening the links between academic research, artistic creation and cultural industries. This orientation is also consistent with FLLA’s academic programmes in cinema, creative writing, audiovisual studies and cultural and creative industries.
The event contributes particularly to Quality Education by providing students and researchers with opportunities for learning, critical analysis and exchange with professionals in the field of cinema. It also supports Sustainable Cities and Communities, especially through the promotion and appreciation of cultural heritage and artistic expression. In addition, the collaboration between the Faculty and the Moroccan Association of Film Critics contributes to Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening cooperation between academic and cultural institutions.
