In commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and in response to the High Royal Message calling for the commemoration of fifteen centuries since the birth of the Prophet ﷺ, the Local Scientific Council of Kenitra Province, under the supervision of the Regional Scientific Council of the Rabat–Sale–Kenitra Region, organized the opening session of the 17th Week of the Noble Prophetic Biography. Held in partnership with the Kenitra Provincial Administration and the Presidency of Ibn Tofail University, and in coordination with the Provincial Delegation of Islamic Affairs, the event took place on Thursday, 3 September 2026 (21 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1448 AH) at the University Theatre of Ibn Tofail University.
The opening session was held under the theme “The Prophetic Approach to Mediation and Reconciliation: Towards Building a Scientific and Institutional Model for Strengthening Social Stability and Cohesion.” The event brought together a distinguished gathering of religious scholars, academics, and administrative officials, including the Governor of Kenitra Province, the President of the Regional Scientific Council of the Rabat–Salé–Kénitra Region, the President of Ibn Tofail University, the Director of the Directorate of Religious Outreach at the Supreme Council of Ulema, the Director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Promotion of Social Affairs of Religious Officials, the Provincial Delegate of Islamic Affairs, regional delegates, presidents of scientific councils from across the region, as well as a large number of male and female scholars.
The gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on aspects of the Prophet’s exemplary life and teachings, particularly his approach to mediation, reconciliation, reform, and the resolution of disputes. Drawing on the values embodied in the Prophetic tradition, the event highlighted principles of compassion, wisdom, dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence, while considering their relevance to contemporary social challenges. It also emphasized the importance of connecting the teachings of the Prophetic biography with present-day efforts to strengthen social relations and promote community well-being.
The focus on mediation and reconciliation further highlighted the importance of developing scientific and institutional approaches to conflict resolution and social cohesion. By bringing together academic, religious, and institutional stakeholders, the event provided a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange on approaches that can contribute to peaceful relationships, mutual understanding, and a cohesive society.
The event also contributed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Its emphasis on mediation, reconciliation, dialogue, and social cohesion is particularly aligned with Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, which promotes peaceful and inclusive societies and effective institutions. The collaborative organization of the event by the university, scientific councils, public authorities, and Islamic affairs institutions also reflects the spirit of Partnerships for the Goals. Furthermore, the scientific and educational dimension of the gathering contributes to Quality Education by promoting knowledge-sharing, intellectual dialogue, and learning.
