Ibn Tofail University’s Participation in the G77 + China Meeting on Sustainable, Inclusive, and Resilient Development – July 4, 2023

Ibn Tofail University recently participated in a high-level international meeting of ministers and officials responsible for environment, science, technology, and innovation from the Group of 77 + China. This event took place on July 4, 2023, in Havana, Cuba, under the theme “Sustainable, Inclusive, and Resilient Development with Science and Innovation Serving the Environment.”

During this meeting, the president of Ibn Tofail University actively contributed to discussions on the crucial role of science and innovation in sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of scientific research in tackling issues related to climate change, which directly affect vulnerable populations. He also highlighted the need to integrate poverty eradication into sustainable development strategies. According to him, efforts to protect the environment must be accompanied by concrete actions to eliminate poverty and promote social inclusion.

Ibn Tofail University is actively working through several initiatives to combat poverty and foster social inclusion. These initiatives include expanding access to education for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing vocational training, and supporting young entrepreneurs. These actions not only reduce poverty but also create economic opportunities for vulnerable communities, while ensuring environmental sustainability.

The theme of the meeting, which links science, innovation, environment, and poverty eradication, is critical in today’s global context. Discussions focused on ways to reduce the ecological footprint of human activities and develop resilient infrastructure in the face of climate change. Particular attention was given to programs aimed at creating jobs and strengthening the economic capacities of populations while adhering to sustainability principles.

 

By participating in this meeting, Ibn Tofail University demonstrates its commitment to engaging on the international stage to contribute to global solutions. This commitment also aligns with Morocco’s broader objectives to strengthen its leadership in the fields of environmental protection, renewable energy, and social action. Under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has positioned itself as a key player in the transition toward more sustainable and inclusive development in Africa.
