The Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences at Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra, through the Research Team in Political and Constitutional Studies, affiliated with the Laboratory of Legal and Political Studies and Research, is organizing a national conference on “Geopolitical Transformations in the Middle East: A Cross-Reading.” The conference is scheduled to take place on 25 November 2026, providing an academic platform for researchers and scholars to discuss and analyze the major geopolitical transformations shaping the Middle East.
The conference seeks to examine the transformations experienced by Arab states in the Middle East and the challenges associated with building and consolidating the national state. It will also explore the nature of the Middle Eastern regional system and the balance of power among its various actors. Particular attention will be devoted to regional and international alliances and their role in shaping regional dynamics, as well as to the wars and conflicts currently affecting the region. The conference will further provide an opportunity to discuss possible scenarios for the future of the Arab regional system in light of ongoing political, strategic, and geopolitical developments.
Through a cross-disciplinary perspective, the conference aims to encourage a deeper understanding of the interactions between domestic political transformations, regional power dynamics, international alliances, and security challenges. The different themes will provide researchers with an opportunity to examine the Middle East from multiple analytical perspectives, while contributing to academic debate on state-building, regional governance, international relations, conflict, and security.
The conference is coordinated by Professor Mohamed Al-Aoufi and Professor Khalil Al-Saïdi of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences at Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra. The call for the conference was announced on 13 July 2026, with researchers whose abstracts are accepted scheduled to be notified of the peer-review results before 30 September 2026. The deadline for submitting full research papers is 8 November 2026, ahead of the conference scheduled for 25 November 2026.
The conference also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, through its focus on peace, security, state-building, governance, conflicts, and regional stability. By creating a space for scholarly analysis and dialogue on complex political and security challenges, the event supports the development of knowledge and informed academic discussion on peaceful and inclusive societies and effective institutions. It also contributes to Partnerships for the Goals by promoting academic cooperation, knowledge exchange, and dialogue among researchers in political science, constitutional studies, law, international relations, and related fields.
Through this initiative, the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences at Ibn Tofail University reaffirms its commitment to promoting research, interdisciplinary academic dialogue, and knowledge exchange on major contemporary geopolitical issues. The conference provides an opportunity to deepen scholarly understanding of transformations in the Middle East while highlighting the role of academic research in addressing complex regional and international challenges.
