Water Sciences and Techniques in Agriculture
A Forward-Looking Program Driving Sustainability and Water Security in Morocco
In response to Morocco’s growing challenges related to water scarcity and environmental transition, Ibn Tofail University, through its Faculty of Sciences, has launched an innovative degree — the New Generation Bachelor’s in Water Sciences and Techniques in Agriculture. Introduced for the 2023/2024 academic year, this program aims to meet the country’s strategic needs in sustainable water management, climate adaptation, and responsible agricultural development.
Sustainable Vision and Training Goals
The program trains highly skilled professionals and future engineers in the analysis, management, and valorization of agricultural water resources. It provides students with strong technical expertise in water treatment, irrigation systems, water quality monitoring, and reuse of treated water for agriculture.
Students gain knowledge directly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially:
SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: promoting efficient and resilient agriculture;
SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: mastering wastewater treatment and integrated water management;
SDG 13 – Climate Action: advancing sustainable adaptation practices;
SDG 15 – Life on Land: protecting terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Comprehensive and Innovative Curriculum
The six-semester curriculum combines foundational courses (biology, chemistry, geology, ecology) with advanced modules in hydraulic infrastructure, wastewater management, desalination technologies, and plant adaptation to water stress.
It also includes digital skills, foreign languages (English, French, Spanish), and career development modules, preparing graduates for an increasingly global and technology-driven world.
Career Opportunities and Societal Impact
Graduates can pursue careers in:
Water treatment and desalination plants,
Environmental and agricultural engineering offices,
Public and private water resource management projects,
Or continue in Master’s and research programs in water science and environmental engineering.
By training experts capable of balancing agricultural productivity with environmental sustainability, Ibn Tofail University contributes to Morocco’s National Water Security Vision 2030 and supports the development of a green economy.
A University Committed to the SDGs
This program embodies Ibn Tofail University’s strategy to integrate sustainable development education across all disciplines. It reflects the institution’s mission to make higher education a catalyst for ecological transition, social innovation, and responsible growth — shaping future leaders ready to build a more sustainable Morocco and planet.
