Training under Flexible Scheduling: Strengthening Professional Development at Ibn Tofail University

Event : 7 August, 2026

Ibn Tofail University continues to place the professional development of its staff, the advancement of scientific research, and responsible institutional governance at the heart of its commitment to a sustainable and high-quality higher education system. In this context, the University is aligned with the “بلاغ لمنتدى رؤساء الجامعات بشأن التكوين وفق التوقيت الميسر” (Communiqué of the Forum of University Presidents on Training under Flexible Scheduling), which highlights the importance of facilitating access to training and professional development opportunities for university staff. Through measures promoting continuous training, professional qualifications, research development, and respect for employees’ rights, the initiative contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A central focus of this initiative is the promotion of lifelong learning and continuous professional development for university staff. By facilitating access to professional training and supporting employees in obtaining recognized qualifications, the University seeks to strengthen their skills and enhance their career development. Particular attention is also given to developing researchers’ competencies and ensuring quality in research and doctoral training. These efforts directly contribute to Quality Education, which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The initiative also supports Decent Work and Economic Growth through its emphasis on professional development, continuing training, and improved working conditions for university employees. Facilitating registration and access to training opportunities can help staff strengthen their professional competencies and improve their career prospects. Supporting researchers in their professional development, while ensuring fair treatment and respect for employees’ rights, further contributes to the promotion of a more inclusive and supportive working environment.

Scientific research and innovation constitute another important dimension of the initiative. Supporting researchers and research activities, allocating resources to scientific research, and strengthening research infrastructure and university laboratories contribute to the development of a dynamic academic and scientific environment. These efforts are aligned with Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, particularly its emphasis on innovation, research capacity, and resilient infrastructure.

The initiative also reflects the principles of Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Its emphasis on compliance with laws and regulations, good university governance, transparency, administrative and financial autonomy, and respect for employees’ rights contributes to strengthening responsible and accountable institutional management. By promoting clear institutional frameworks and responsible governance practices, the University reinforces trust, fairness, and transparency within the academic community.

Where training and professional development initiatives are implemented through cooperation between universities, public institutions, governmental bodies, or other partners, they can also contribute to Partnerships for the Goals. Such cooperation can facilitate the exchange of expertise, strengthen institutional capacities, and create new opportunities for knowledge sharing and professional development.
