In collaboration with The Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Moroccan League Against Tuberculosis, Ibn University organized a set of activities directed towards the students of Ibn Tofail University and the general public, celebrating World Tuberculosis Day on Thursday, March 24, 2022. at Ibn Tofail University Campus.

Globally, this disease affects nearly 30,000 people every day and claims the lives of over 4,000. These numbers have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In Morocco, a total of 29,327 cases were reported and placed under treatment in 2021 as part of the National Antituberculosis Program (PNLAT), and it is evident that the young population, aged between 15 and 45 years, remains the most vulnerable.

World Tuberculosis Day is an annual event observed on March 24th to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social, and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. In line with this, this event aimed to educate the public, encourage prevention measures, and highlight the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. The gathering took place at the Ibn Tofail University where various activities, discussions, and presentations were held to spread awareness and knowledge about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis. This event is part of the ongoing efforts of UIT researchers to control and eliminate tuberculosis on a global scale.

The focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis directly contributes to UIT commitment to achieve SDG 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. By targeting high-risk population groups, the initiative works towards reducing inequalities by ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to timely diagnosis and treatment. The collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, along with other national and international stakeholders, exemplifies the importance of partnerships in achieving the SDGs, particularly in the area of global health.
